Mary:
What you said about the effects of declawing was what I was trying to say. My cat has had no adverse side effects, nor have any of the cats I've known that were declawed. The point of reasons for declawing was right on track. I had to have mine declawed when she started to tear up the carpet in a place we rented. She didn't do that in the last place, here she just took a fancy to the stairs and went crazy. I tried everything to break her of it but nothing worked. It was between giving her to a shelter and breaking alot of hearts here or having her declawed. She decided she wanted to be an outdoor cat and has no problems. At first I was really nervous but eventually realized that she can still take care of herself. Of all the cats on the street it's the ones that have been declawed that cause the least amount of fights on the street. The ones with claws are forever fighting and needing trips to the vets to have wounds treated or stitched up.
It comes down to everyone has the right to their own opioning, if everyone thought the same way then the world would be a very boring place to live.
A friend of mine and I have a saying we use when we find we are about to go head to head on an issue. "Let's just agree that we disagree" with that the conversation is dropped and we move onto something else.
