You haven't even gotten the kitten yet. Consider learning to clip the baby's claws first, ok? Please?
I have four indoor kitties. None of them has ever done any damage to my furniture - or a person (unless like Mary sad, that person got in the way of them while playing). (And, of course Lily, my kitty who was abused last summer, did scratch up her abuser from time to time, but personally, I WISH he'd gotten some horrible infection from it and died....but that's a different story altogether.)
I think 99.9% of kitties can be trained not to scratch on furniture. A water bottle and a firm "No," works wonders. Please try this, and **ONLY** consider declawing as the ****VERY**** last option.
I just recently got two new babies (Scarlett & Daisy), and I started clipping their claws. It's not all that hard at all. If you start young, and let them know that it's something they just have to sit still for, they'll do fine.
My cousin got her cat declawed, and she did become a biter. Her name is Lucy, but most folks just call her Lucifer.....
