I currently live in an apartment in an old victorian house. I come in the front door, go across the hallway and up the stairs to my apartment door. I am very careful about not letting them out, my foot is the first thing that goes through as well, because I want them to think their world ends at the front door. But Molly, the little stinker, has escaped twice, even with me being so careful. it wasn't a big deal at all, because she was just in the hallway that nobody but me uses, but it's scary.

I hope to buy a place in a few years, so I have been doing a lot of thinking about it... trying to decide if I should get a condo or a house, what town, what style, etc, checking out realestate websites on the net. I was looking at places that had enclosed front porches, then thought that maybe I was getting a bit too dramatic here. Lots of my friends have townhouses where the front door opens right into the living room, and their cats never get out. So maybe I was thinking a bit overboard? Then the night I read about Mitzi slipping out, my mind was made up. I would never get anything now, either a house or condo, that didn't have two doors - maybe some kind of screened porch, or a little foyer that can be closed off to the rest of the house. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but I can't imagine going through what Mitzi and Demri are going through.
