: : I am having problems downloading through the DV port on my Canon Elura 2. What i do is turn the computer on, put the camcorder in VCR mode, and plug in the firewire cable into the camcorder, then nothing happens.
: : I have a tried it on windows 98 and windows 2000. On the win 98 i tried moving around the PCI slots of the IEEE 1394 to try to get rid of IRQ problems. (the win 2000 firewire port was confirmed to work already). I have downloaded all of the firewire updates and patches for both OS's.
: : Software programs i have tried to capture with: Adobe Preimere 5.5 Full, Digital Origin's IntroDV Trial, and Ulead Videostudio Trial.
: : Nothing has worked yet..PLEASE HELP!!!
: : I have not read all of the replies so this may have been mentioned but...try bringing up you computer with the camera turned on and plugged into the fire wire port. I havwe also found that you need to have a IEEE 1394 card built with a TI chip set.
: Let me know if you want to sell the camera! Mine was stolen.
Same problem here with a brand new ZR 80, Via 1394 card installed. The latest buzz is that Canon is offering a "free" sutie of Pinacle software that is supposed to connect the canon camcorders to the firewire buss. I requested mine, have not yet received it yet. Friends at work say they use this software and it works. I was and am mad at Canon for writing a manual that is hard to read and not detailed enough to address this firewire matter. I am also confused as to how Canon is offering Pinacle software for new purchases of Canon camcorders but doesn't bundle this software with the product. Very strange.
The firewire thing is a software thing. You can have the camera, you can have the firewire, but if there is nothing to make the connection, nothing happens. Thats what I udnerstand so far.
Analog movie transfers are no problem at all. My ATI all in 1 9000 makes fair analong movies off of my Canon ZR 80 using either Windows movie maker or Nero. But neither Nero or Windows movie maker seem to find the fire wire.
I think Canon should of included proper software with the camera for a digital upload. They didn't.
