Sony TRV33 Video Capturing Very Strange!!!

Ok I have a friend with this camcorder who bought it in the USA so NTSC
I recently bought it in UK so PAL

I have a firewire card installed
when capturing PAL it dont work
when capturing NTSC it works fine
I have tried everything!!
Adobe,unlead,pinacle
looked at settings etc etc

This has got me stumped
any ideas?
