TRV730 to PC via USB not working w/VideoWaveIII

My new TRV730 has arrived and I am attempting to capture a digital video stream onto my PC using the supplied USB cable and the supplied software VideoWaveIII. The Windows explorer "sees" the camera via the USB port but VideoWaveIII does NOT.
MGI Software support has entry about some cameras not having compatible USB & says use software supplied w/camera. Unfortunately, that software is VideoWaveIII.
Any ideas (other than "buy a firewire card")?
