As a person whom was born at Center Community Hospital in State College and whom grew up and lived just outside of State College the first 18 years of my life, i know well the pride and mentality of penn state football fans. My dad is PSU alumni. I, however went to Pitt. What i clearly have seen the last three years of the psu-pitt football games is that though the pitt team has had less recruiting accolades and gets far less respect than penn state over the past twenty years, they have played with an intangible that has made a huge difference... heart. The pitt athletes have had incredible desire that has resulted in 3 of the best college football games anyone could ever watch over the past three seasons. Hats off to both schools for giving the TRUE fans of each school something to really remember. It is a travesty that this matchup will not be continued for years. The game is great for all who love the teams and psu's demand for a 2-1 home-away schedule with pitt is ridiculous. Pitt is a Big East school, not a MAC or independent, and it is silly that political bs has ruined the tradition and fun of these games. Money should not be everything. It seems obvious that Pitt's program is on the way back up, while PSU is suffering from a bad year. PSU's misfortune will not be a longstanding fall.... they will be back to the elites and soon. I do feel that a change is necessary at PSU and i hope that it happens for the benefit of them. PSU's program has not done anything different in the last 15 years i remember watching them. The defense is always steady of course, but the offense needs to start over. The run, run, run, run, run, run, run just doesn't work every game, every year. Shake it up a little, as now is a different time in college football. Either one adapts with the times, or they get left behind. In 95, psu threw more and changed things up and look what happened. Undefeated and entertaining. I know psu football better than most. Pitt's program was down and was transformed by Walt Harris and look at the change. When i got here in 96, Pitt under Johnny Majors, though he is a ooaching legend and college football hall of famer, were terrible. Harris shook up the team and MADE his team into overachievers. It is exciting to be here and with the new stadium next year and real successful recruiting, things are looking up here. The last two years the PA High School Football Player of the Year has selected Pittsburgh over Penn State(Rod Rutherford, QB and Dustin Pisciotti,RB). Having been around both programs for a good time now, i am going to hate seeing seasons without a pitt-psu matchup. These are always great games and it looks like they will be for a long time. It is only pathetic that we will have to wait at least 8 years to get to experience more of them. Till then, Pitt will be the one with the last laugh. So let's look at what is really pathetic.
