I had Tryglicerides of 248 and had tried Lipitor and Lescol (for high colesterol) with no effect on Tryglicerides. My Dr put me on the Atkins diet and my Tryglicerides went from 248 to 75 in about 3 months (and I lost 20 pounds). High Tryglicerides in my case were caused by carbs - not by my fat intake (my fat intake probably doubled on this "diet", and its not a diet anymore, it's forever, and I like it.)
