dealing with high cholestorol

I have been recently told that I have high cholestorol
and the doctor suggested changing my diet. I don't believe
that my diet needs changing since I do not eat fried foods
or a lot of cheese products. My doctor also said that he will
put me on a pill to try and reduce my number if the diet
doesnt help. My question is can I reduce my cholestorol
without taking any medication or changing my lifestyle as is.
