: Pat,

: 1st Thanks for being here for all of us new to Ireland. I will be arriving on 16 April 2007, we will depart on the 20th, I know this is a "Quickie".
: I am a Flight Attendant for American so we fly standby we hope these are our dates!

: For my Concern: Originally we were going to use Dublin as a Post & do day trips,,, However after reading I'm thinking this is not such a good idea,
: looks like there is more to see and do in the Southern Area. With time being so short .. what could you suggest? I have already rented the car ( thru an airline websight) My husband and I love to DRIVE.. Look to our left, say that is pretty, pull over and spend an hour! However, If we decide not to use Dublin as our post, I know we will fight if every evening we decide to look for housing where we may end up. Any advise would be appreciated!

: Thanks .. Jack & Shelby

Dear Jack and Shelby,

First of all, as you can see, I do not get to look at this Forum every day since I have a new Forum that is much better, and this Forum is being phased out due to spam postings. Just press your back button and return to my Forum Intro Page or type this into your browser: www.irelandexpert.com/forum_intro.htm. Then, either way, click to my NEW Forum.

To answer your question quickly, if you want to see the south and west, then stand-by for SHANNON, not Dublin.

From Shannon, you can do this:

April 16 - arrive, get car and drive to Galway, stay 2 nights at a central hotel or lodging in Galway. See my section on The West - A-1 Attractions for things to do.

April 17 - spend the day driving Connemara including a visit to Kylemore Abbey. OR, spend the day with a day trip to the Aran Islands. See The West - Sightseeing Tours for info.

April 18 - depart Galway and drive south via the Cliffs of Moher (N67) eventually to Killimer - get the ferry across to Co. Kerry and continue on to Killarney. Check in to a hotel for 2 nights.

April 19 - spend the day touring Killarney and drive the Ring of Kerry.

April 20 - depart Killarney for Shannon - depends on your flight time (if early, you may have to overnight in Shannon area on Apr 19).

If you do not have the choice of flying into Shannon, then spend your time in the E and SE - see my sections on Wicklow & The East and the Southeast for ideas.

If you have more questions, PLEASE post on my NEW Forum and I will answer right away. I am leaving for Shannon myself on April 12 for our Springtime in Ireland tour.
PAT
