: Hi Pat, great site I use it all the time. We are planning a trip this June to Ireland. Was wondering how long it takes to drive from Dublin to Belfast.

: Thanks

Dear Jim,

Thanks for your kind comments on my web site. Have you checked out my new Forum?

With the new M1, it takes about two hours, if traffic is in your favor. Allow 3 hours, to stop occasionally, and if traffic is congested around cities like Newry and approaching Belfast.

If you are just going up for a day trip, I heartily recommend the train instead. It's the best train service in Ireland (except for the new Dublin-Cork route), and it brings you right into Belfast (in just under 2 hours), with a free bus to take you to Royal Avenue. Many Dubliners take the train for a day, so I always follow their good example. Only drive if you are going to be staying a few days in Belfast and the North.

Hope this helps.
PAT
