: : : : We will be traveling to Ireland from May 29 to June 1st. Would like to see the South East section of Ireland.. Looking for ideas of where to stay and what to see..

: : : Dear Linda,

: : : Welcome to my Forum! Do hope I can be of help.

: : : With only three days in Ireland, you are wise to confine your stay to the Southeast, one area. I presume you are flying in and out of Dublin Airport? or are you taking a ferry over from England or France?

: : : In any case, I have lots of information for you on this web site. Just go to my "Ireland Guide" section and click to Wicklow & The East and the Southeast. In each section, look at Favorite Places to Stay, A-1 Attractions, SIghtseeing Tours, etc.

: : : If you are arriving in Dublin, I would suggest the following:

: : : Day 1 - drive to Wicklow and stay there for your first day (perhaps at the Marriott Druids Glen or the Woodenbridge Hotel. Tour Powerscourt Gardes, Glendalough, Avoca...

: : : Day 2 - drive to Waterford or Wexford and spend a day covering these two towns including Waterford Crystal, if you are interested. Continue to Kilkenny and stay overnight.

: : : Day 3 - a full day for Kilkenny, Ireland's medieval city including a walking tour. You may also want to tour the neighboring Nore & Barrow Valleys (e.g. Inistioge, Thomastown, Bennettsbridge, etc.), and visit the craft centers along the way. Overnight again in Kilkenny.

: : : Day 4 - return to Dublin airport for departure.

: : : How does that sound?

: : I put in the wrong dates.. sorry.. We plan to leave on June 3rd not the first. We'll be flying into Dublin from Bristol England then flying out of either Shannon or Dublin. We haven't set that yet

: Dear Linda,

: If you are thinking of flying out of Shannon, then it would make sense to include a bit of the SW as well as the SE. I would change the itinerary accordingly. But I won't make any new suggestions in that regard until you make up your mind about departure airport.

: If you still pick Dublin Airport for departure, then you can add some additional time in the SE, such as
: Day 1 - Co. Wicklow (as above)
: Day 2 - Wexford with time to explore the coast to Hook Head and Rosslare, etc.
: Day 3 - Waterford (with time to visit Waterford Crystal and some of West Waterford - Lismore, Cappoquin, Glen of Aherlow, the Vee Drive).
: Day 4 & 5 - Kilkenny (as above)
: Or you might also add in Kildare and perhaps your last night in the Boyne Valley (Co. Meath or Louth).

: All of this also assumes that you do not want to have any time in Dublin. Is this the case?

: When you make up your mind about your departure airport, everything can easily fall into place.

We have finally decide to fly out of Dublin.. We'll be arriving at 9am from Bristol on Tuesday May 29th and Leaving June 3 from Dublin back to Boston.. What would you suggest as to area to go to? We have been in Dublin twice, were thinking of our last night there. We want to stay in the Southeast area. Have you heard anything about Killiane Castle B&B? Thanks
