My response below ("calling cards") to Sheshe might be of help with regard to renting a phone. Sounds like it would be best for you since you want people at home to be able to reach you. You could rent it on behalf of your group and share the cost (no charge for receiving calls). If not, the phone cards you buy in Ireland from Swiftcall are the best. You know they will work in Ireland!
