: I have been to Ireland several times and have tried U.S international calling cards and Eirecom international calling cards and we never could make a decent clear uncomplicated call to the United States. Does anyone know which calling cards actually work? U.S or Irish? My husband gave up and used cold hard cash on his last trip over. He said that worked best for him. Any suggestions?
Dear Sheshe,
I have recently used Swiftcall cards, for sale in most all shops in Ireland, for international calls from Ireland with great success and no hassle. Just dial the Swiftcall access number, followed by the pin number provided, and then you are prompted to enter your US number, and zip, you are connected.
If a lot of numbers and pins are not to your liking, then you may be better off renting your own phone from Rent-a-phone Ireland. The big advantage is that you get your own Irish phone number (sent to you before you leave on your trip), so you can give it to all your business contacts and family, and they can call you anytime, anywhere, directly, at no cost to you (no charge for incoming calls).
For info, go to my "Money Savers" page and click "Bargain Page" and you will get the full story plus a discount. If you have a lot of calls to make/receive, it's the only way to go.
Hope this helps,
PAT
