: Pat,
: First, thank you for your information on traveling from Shannon to Dublin.
: Now I have a question regarding the end of our stay in Ireland. Our tour ends in Shannon and we will be staying one extra night at the Bunratty Castle. We were thinking of taking a bus to Galway on our last day and taking a tour from Galway to the Connemarra area. The tour we are taking from Dublin does the southern loop to Shannon. Would you suggest a taxi to and from the Bunratty to the bus station in Shannon or Limerick? Also, should we take the Connemarra tour on our last day or would you suggest something else.
: Also, a couple of questions regarding money. Should we get Euros in the U.S. before we leave or at the airport in Shannon? Also, is it best to use a credit card for the best exhcange rate?
: Thank you for your advise.
Dear Diane,
If you want to get to Galway in time to take a tour of Connemara, you'll need to get there by 9:30 a.m., since most tours depart at 9:45 or 10 am. That means leaving Limerick or Ennis by Bus Eireann pretty early, but it certainly can be done. See my section on The West - Sightseeing Tours. Citylink operates a bus service from Shannon Airport to Galway - that might be your best means of getting to Galway. www.citylink.ie
If you look at my section on the Shannon Area and click to Sightrseeing Tours, you will also see that Barrett Tours operates a tour up to Galway (not too much of Connemara) on Mondays - that might suffice.
As to money, check out my FAQs page. The favored option lately is to use ATMs for convenience and to get the best rate and least service fees. But check with your credit card to see if they levy any fees.Otherwise charge all of your major purchaes and use cash from ATMs for incidentals.
Hope this helps,
PAT
