Driving itinerary: Dublin to Shannon, late April, 8 nights

Hi!

We will be visiting Ireland (first trip, from the USA) in late April - staying 8 nights. We fly into Dublin and out of Shannon. We intend to rent a car or small van (4 adults, 1 baby).

I think 2 days in Dublin will be sufficient - and will help the jet lag factor. Beyond that?

Interests include the "must see" touristy stuff, castles, scenic drives, pubs, perhaps a golf/spa resort, mix of resort hotels and Bed & Breakfasts...

2 nights in each hotel is preferrable, and I'd like to use some Marriott points along the way.

Can you suggest an itinerary for our drive? Specific sites? hotels?
