i recently bought an opal while travelling in the middle east. i have purchased other stones from this gentleman, but have never purchased an opal in my life. however, this stone was beautiful. it is a very dark blue, with green/gold/blue flashes and when held to look through at a bright light, the stone changes to a deep wine color with hints of gold. now, he has informed me the stone is real, and other gems i have purchased from him are appraised quite well over the price i paid. i am paying approx. 300 dollars for a 3.44 carat heart shaped pendant. how do i know its not a fake before i head back to the states? does this sound too good to be true?
any help would be great.
