: I love opals, especially the "blue" ones. However, I am a dunce about them. We recently bought a squash blossom necklace with "blue" opals in it from a good dealer. But didn't ask him a lot about it. Now we're wondering if they opals are created opals. How can I tell a natural opal from a "created" or "synthetic" opal? Thanks for your help. It's greatly appreciated.
how to tell a fake opal from a natural one is to see if the opals have any inclusions. If you put a opal up to the light you can see some internal cracks and irregularities. one other factor that i can think about is price , was the price too remarkable to believe , if it was the opals are possibly synthetic
