Rob,
Great questions. I wish everyone would ask questions like that!
Ques #1: Who pays?
At TRG, all our fee's are paid by our client companies. Our client companies hire us to find good technical candidates for them to hire. When a client company actually hires a person we introduce to them, we invoice our client company for our services. If no one is hired, we are not paid. Candidates NEVER pay a fee when working with TRG.
NOTE: This fee structure is NOT true at all recruiting firms. Be sure to ask "who pays?" before you start working with any recruiter.
Ques #2: How can I keep my job hunt confidential?
At TRG, your resume will NEVER leave our offices in any way (fax, email, postal mail, etc) without YOUR permission. In fact, your entire job search will remain totally confidential with us unless you choose othterwise. And there are some cases (ie. unemployment) where confidentiality of your job search is not a real concern to you. Recruiting in a completely confidential manner makes our job A LOT harder, but we pride ourselves on working with the best candidates. And the best candidates usually want us to work that way.
Other recruiting firms may not treat your job search as a confidential activity. If you need your search to be confidential, be careful where you send your resume. It could wind up in places where you really don't want it to be!

: Hi--
: I've got two questions related to your recruiting
: practice. First, who actually pays for the service
: you provide? Does the employer pay, or does the
: recruitee end up paying some or all of the fee?
: Second, what controls exist regarding giving people
: access to my resume? It would be nice for the
: recruitee to have a say in where their resume goes,
: especially if their current employer does not know
: that they are looking for another job.
: Thanks in advance,
: Rob
