78 Speedo

Rebuilding a Katrina flooded 78. Speedo/tach/gauges shot. Found a good cheap 80' speedo (85mph rather than the 140 damaged one) Can I simply connect the 80'speedo with no mods to the auto trans gear? will it give accurate speeds? If I send it to a shop (Ecklers) for the face plate/calibration upgrade will it work as is?
